Douglas William MacVoy, Rest in Peace

Douglas William MacVoy

01/29/1944 – 04/18/2013

The lighting industry recently lost a respected member.  Douglas William MacVoy, founder and owner of United Lighting Standards, passed away on Thursday, 04/18/2013.  Doug was first diagnosed with ALS in July of 2012, the disease that eventually took his life, and later confirmed in November of that same year.  The debilitating effects that ALS had on such a strong and proud man were difficult for his close friends and family to endure.  However, Doug continued to entertain them all with his stories and wit.  Douglas MacVoy was a story teller that used his amazing life experiences as inspiration for his impressive tales.  Doug always said that the lighting industry is a people business and he was definitely a people person.  He was very proud of the business that he created and the relationships that he had formed with his employees, manufactured sales representatives, customers, and fellow manufacturing leaders.

Doug was born in Leamington, Ontario, Canada.  He enjoyed playing hockey and baseball.  His athletic ability allowed him to excel in these team sports and provided him with the idea that a group of people can accomplish amazing feats when a common goal and encouraging culture is created.  Eventually the family moved to the states and settled into the Metro Detroit area.  Doug always considered this area his home even though he has lived in many places including his current residence of Pompano Beach, Florida prior to his death.

Douglas William MacVoy, beloved husband of Tillie J. MacVoy; loving father of Kelly (Andy) Guffey, Ryan (Sarah Kinser) MacVoy, and Zachary MacVoy; cherished grandfather of Clara and Hazel Guffey; dear brother of Donna (James) Noland and Raymond (Kristine) MacVoy; will live on in the memories and stories told by the people who knew him well and he will never be forgotten but deeply missed.
