Engineering Manager–Kurtzon

 ENGINEERING MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION AND PROFILE

The Managing Engineer will be responsible for assisting with the design and manufacturability of new industrial type lighting products and re designs of existing products. The Managing Engineer will participate in the development and implementation of continuous improvement projects, root cause analysis and other efficiency and cost reducing measures to positively affect the company’s production flow, quality and profit margin. 

The Managing engineer must be versatile, adaptive, and results-oriented. This individual’s main responsibility is to take care of the management aspects of various engineering projects and procedures, including product development. They must plan, organize and supervise the work done by engineers, consultants, as well as the administrative staff, internal and external.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the engineering department by training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and adhering to company policies and procedures
  • Formulate and manage new products and prototyping with an emphasis on manufacturability and profitability
  • Recommend cost reductions for existing products using alternative methods and materials
  • Troubleshoot assembly productions line issues relating to manufacturing
  • Manage and or modify the current process for obtaining lighting certifications for products  
  • Participate in and promote efficient manufacturing initiatives
  • Assist sales initiatives by attending trade shows and customer technical visits
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, senior management, customers and vendors to achieve project goals
  • Participate in the development of goals, objectives and policies of the department
  • Flexible to perform overtime duties or adjust schedule as necessary
  • Assist in executive meetings dealing with organizational goals and strategies
  • Manage third party consulting/design firms
  • Document clearly defined procedures for assembly personnel including ECN’s
  • Research and discover new lighting resources and technologies
  • Develop a program to train engineers, sales and customer service personnel in both pre-sales as well as post sales process and also deliver a high level of performance to the customer
  • Providing CS and customers with product information, performance data such as catalog sheets and submittal drawings.
  • Spend time with customers understanding their needs and requirements
  • Assist with detail sketches and CAD drawings and new product development
  • Continuously improve the performance of the engineering department and the profit of the company by implementing innovative methods
  • Make presentations to clients with Sales team
  • Determine customer’s specifications; provide lighting layouts, fixture’s photometrics and verify Kurtzon products meet specifications
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Executive team to solve field problems
  • Responsible for testing products and acquiring certification from UL/CSA/ETL and other testing/safety agencies.
  • Familiar with NEC Electrical Code.
  • Responsible for  all technical documentation, and product installation instructions
  • Continuing education defined as: remaining current on codes and requirements; participating in educational opportunities; attending IES events; reading professional publications and attend trade shows

  • Experience in the areas of QA/QC, field problem solutions, UL/ETL and other laboratory testing and certification, lighting layouts and photometric testing
  • Strong knowledge in LED technology
  • Professional in appearance and attitude and possess the ability to work in a professional manner with customers, vendors and employees at all levels
  • Expert knowledge of Autodesk Inventor software
  • Must be self-directed and able to meet deadlines

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Mastery of Engineering Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in design and /or Electrical engineering or  7+ years of prior experience in an lighting companies engineering department
  • Strong computer literacy (word, excel, cad, inventor, etc.)
  • UL and other testing agencies experience
  • Team leadership skills
