Position Summary

The Engineering Manager provides operational power by directing and coordinating the activities of the engineering department to design and test products, electronic components, and systems to meet the requirements of sales, marketing or customer needs while also meeting the requirements of agency standards and code regulations.

Tasks

  • Accomplishes objectives by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing performance actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Achieves operational objectives by contributing engineering input and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing  production, productivity, quality, and customer-service requirements into design; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying and analyzing technology trends; determining administrative system improvements; implementing change.
  • Confers with management, purchasing, production, sales and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer requirements for new and existing products.
  • Meets engineering financial objectives by forecasting engineering resource requirements; preparing project budgets; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Plans and manages projects by applying project management and by determining specifications; and establishing schedules; ensuring compliance to required agency standards and codes; updating cost estimates.
  • Completes projects by supervising product development and support teams; resolving design, schedule and costing issues.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures which comply with codes and regulations.
  • Updates job knowledge by remaining current on agency standards, codes and requirements; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Experience and Education

MSEE with 5+ years Design Engineering plus 3+ years Engineering Management or

BSEE with 7+ years Design Engineering plus 5+ years Engineering Management

 

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.
  • Office/Engineering lab environment
  • Valid driver’s license
