About the position

Electrical/Electronics Engineer (EE) to provide engineering support and technical direction for defining, designing, bringing to market, and supporting NICOR’s solid-state lighting product lines

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with Management, Marketing, and Sales to define new product requirements, and then map these into technical performance specifications
  2. Evaluate and select the electrical, mechanical, thermal, optical, and semiconductor components determined to be optimal for design and manufacture of NICOR SSL products
  3. Define and manage SSL product design projects including: technology provider selection, project goals, schedules and budget, and overall project management
  4. Continuously review and evaluate new SSL technologies, competitor products, and NICOR SSL products (including field failures and customer returns) so as to keep NICOR at the forefront of SSL competition
  5. Define, organize, and maintain NICOR technical database libraries of SSL specifications, CAD databases, design documents and revisions, bills of materials (BOS), etc.
  6. Work closely with Manufacturing Operations to bring new SSL product designs through prototyping, testing, certification, and product launch. 
  7. Help optimize supply chain, manufacturing cost reduction, quality control, and resolution of any product issues.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering
  • Five years related industry experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Theory-of-operation knowledge and understanding of: LED’s, electrical power supply and drive circuitry, heat sink thermodynamics, optics, and general knowledge of Solid-State Lighting components.
  • General hands-on proficiency with computers, electronic test instruments, lab and shop tools related to prototype building and testing.
  • Good project management skills and experience as related to bringing new products to market.
  • Good general communications skills; verbal and written.
  • Ability to interface with and manage a wide variety of component suppliers, technology vendors, contract manufacturers, design service providers, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • General M-F work week in office setting.
  • Some laboratory work using electrical test equipment.
  • Some shop work building, modifying, and testing SSL prototypes using hand tools.
  • Limited travel to various service/component suppliers meetings or industry conferences and trade shows.

  • Office computer.
  • Electrical and lighting test equipment.
  • Hand tools and power tools for prototype building and modifications.
