Why Daintree?

“Winning the Intelligent Environment Race”

EdisonReport talked to a few people, one inside of GE’s Current, regarding today’s announcement of the acquisition of Daintree Networks.

When we asked why Current chose Daintree, our source explained that GE Lighting has worked with Daintree over the years on several different projects, so the relationship is long established.  In addition, Daintree is vital to Current’s strategic plan to win the intelligent environment race.  The fact that Daintree designs open and scalable wireless networks that collect data from smart lights AND energy systems was a big deal to Current.

We also were told that Current plans to give power a purpose, as opposed to a cost. This is an interesting theme and we hope to hear more.

When we asked about the Daintree employees in Los Altos and whether they would be offered jobs in Boston, we were told that Daintree already has a presence in Boston, as well as California and Australia, and these operations will continue.  No changes at this time.

No one would comment on the purchase price, but your humble editor is working hard to get that number.  We did confirm that the deal has closed.
