WAC Strikes Back!

28 MAY 2014, Philips Lighting Sued WAC for patent infringement.  Last week WAC returned the favor.  On Monday, your humble editor spoke to Shelly Wang, President of WAC Lighting.  Ms. Wang explained that WAC has filed an Inter Partes Review (IPR) which is a trial proceeding conducted to review the patentability of specific Philips patents.

I told Ms. Wang that EdisonReport had been told on numerous occasions that these Philips IP suits are being conducted outside of the Philips lighting division by a separate Philips business unit and that the Philips Lighting people typically are not involved.  She explained that WAC is a good Philips Lighting customer and has been for years.

Philips sued WAC on the folllowing patents:

  • ‘988 patent
  • ‘458 patent
  • ‘774 patent
  • ‘690 patent
  • ‘890 patent
  • ‘011 patent
  • ‘399 patent
  • ‘138 patent
WAC filed 7 IPR’s and we have links to the four below:

In addition, Philips has recently filed against:

  • iGuzzini
  • Troy-CSL Lighting
  • JST Performance
  • Schreder Lighting
