OSRAM SYLVANIA Loses in Pretrial Patent Dispute

…plans to appeal…

DANVERS, Mass., June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — North American lighting manufacturer OSRAM SYLVANIA responded today to recent information released by American Induction Technologies, Inc. (“AITI”) regarding a patent suit between the two companies. In November 2009, OSRAM SYLVANIA filed the action in federal court in the Central District of California alleging that electrodeless induction lamps sold by AITI infringe OSRAM SYLVANIA’s U.S. Patent No. 5,834,905.

The lawsuit is pending despite the District Court’s pre-trial ruling that the independent claims of the ‘905 patent-in-suit are invalid.

“OSRAM SYLVANIA intends to vigorously pursue an appeal and remains committed to protecting its innovations, including those embodied in its portfolio of patents concerning electrodeless induction lamps”, said Jeff Hoffman, OSRAM SYLVANIA senior vice president, Professional Lighting.

OSRAM SYLVANIA has been an innovator in the lighting field for over a hundred years and has invented some of the most important technology in the industry. The ICETRON™ inductively coupled electrodeless lighting system was developed by OSRAM SYLVANIA and is the subject of several patents in the United States and other countries throughout the world. The ‘905 patent-in-suit is but one patent in a portfolio of patents concerning electrodeless induction lamps. Manufactured by OSRAM SYLVANIA, the ICETRON lighting system is sold by OSRAM SYLVANIA and its affiliate, OSRAM.
