Espen Technology Releases Dynamus T8 and T5HO Dimming Platform

Dynamus dimming technology allows for 3-level dimming using standard A/B switch or occupancy sensor.

Santa Fe Springs, CA December 5, 2011 – Espen Technology announces the release of a new line of fluorescent dimming ballasts.  The Dynamus dimming T8 and T5HO ballast is a high performance fluorescent platform that delivers 3-levels of incremental dimming. 


Dynamus.jpgThe product improves upon high efficiency fluorescent systems by having the versatility to decrease energy with several control methods, especially when commissioned with sensors.  The Dynamus line of ballasts is designed to meet the energy reduction demands of the future with a simple, cost-effective package. 

Significant energy savings is attained by the system’s ability to shed load by 50% or 75%.  In both new fixture design and retrofit applications, the dimming ballast replaces the need for a 2-ballast A/B switching system with a single ballast. The ballast’s incremental dimming supports Title-24 compliance and LEED qualification; in addition, the Dynamus meets NEMA Premium standards and may qualify for local utility rebate incentives. 

“We have committed to retrofit both our Southern California and Northern California facilities using Espen’s dimming ballast.  We will be implementing T5HO dimming with sensors in the warehouse, T8 dimming with dual pole sensors in the hallways and offices, and 3-level dimming in the larger office spaces,” said Alex Vallejo, Operations Manager of Reserve Truck Lines. “Having completed the mock installation and data logging, we are confident this system upgrade is going to achieve our energy savings and payback goals.” 

The Dynamus line is designed and manufactured with a focus on simple implementation and improved life cycle costs.  The ballast features advanced thermal management for prolonged ballast life and reliability, universal voltage (120V-277V), and lamp auto restrike.  In frequent lamp cycling applications, such as with occupancy sensors, the ballast increases lamp life with the programmed start and dimming feature.  “The goal of developing the Dynamus dimming platform was to create a versatile, sensible, and economical solution for maximizing energy savings and ROI,” states Brandon Yuan, Product Manager of Espen Technology. “The product’s versatility opens the door to several implementation strategies, including: wireless controls, occupancy sensors, daylight sensors, and dual relay wall sensors.”

Rebate programs are expected to focus increasingly on dimming technology and occupancy sensors.  Espen’s Dynamus ballast offers a smarter system to meet the task of increasing energy savings even further. By using the ballast in a warehouse application to dim fixtures down to 25% when unoccupied, the system can save over 30% energy when compared to standard fluorescent high bay systems. Other applications include hallway, stairwell, and parking garages where a minimum light level is needed when unoccupied in order to maintain safety and security.  Espen Technology expects the Dynamus dimming platform to be the new standard in high efficiency fluorescent systems.
