OSRAM SYLVANIA Files Suit to Enforce Induction Lighting Patents

DANVERS, Mass., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- OSRAM SYLVANIA today commenced a lawsuit against lighting distributor Green Energy Management, LLC for offering to sell induction lamps that infringe U.S. Patent No. 5,834,905.  The action was filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire.  OSRAM SYLVANIA is represented in the case by the Holland & Knight law firm.

"This is the first action in the United States in our campaign to enforce OSRAM SYLVANIA's patents for the ICETRON induction lighting system," said Peter Lawler, head of OSRAM SYLVANIA's Low Pressure Discharge business unit. "OSRAM SYLVANIA is committed to enforcing its intellectual property rights in the United States and throughout the world.  OSRAM SYLVANIA will not tolerate infringement of its intellectual property rights."

The ICETRON(R) inductively coupled electrodeless lighting system was developed by OSRAM SYLVANIA.  It is the subject of several patents in the United States and in other countries throughout the world.  The ICETRON lighting system is manufactured by OSRAM SYLVANIA and sold by OSRAM SYLVANIA and its affiliate OSRAM.

NEMA acting as a coagulator is assisting the effort for a unified message to help the market place to explain energy savings, improve productivity and a sustaintable.  EA is about saving energy, return on investment, improving competitiveness and managing the carbon footprint for ne

 

 

1)     Who will benefit from any success the EA initiative has?

 

 

2)     Does the special project EA Task Force want involvement from all lighting companies?  Starting with NEMA companies,and that represents about 50 companies. Everyone will benefit.  No, on non-NEMA members.  Represent 90% of the market.  10:  EYE Lighting (Eyesaki),  NEMA, Acuity, GO, OSI, Philips, Hubbell, Univesal, Cooper, Juno, Leviton, and many others that are supporting indirectly but outside of the task force.

 

Confidentiality:  $150K for 2 year effort. All member financed.

 

What has changed since ECSC.  Amazing alightnment of industry. Can’t p ick up a newspaper, TV without hearing $4 gas, green, transporation.  Jack didn’t have this at the time. Didn’t have globalization.  World much more competitive place. Must be a low cost provider.  These give industry the opportunity to compete.  3rd)  leadership of NEMA think that this is agood idea and have put good money behind this.  These 10 people would take.  Task force conists of mainly marketing p eople.     The task force is managing the day-to-day activity of thetask force, compared to the ECSC.  Ground breaking stuff for the industry. Using marketing vehicles, marketing people and have these 50 people and use state of the art leading edge technologyies, who wouldn’t want to do this. 

 

How is the task force promoting this:

 

a.      Variety of marketing and mediums.  Showed at recent LFI.  Industry movers and shakers.  All member companies had in-booth communications at LFI. (talking to ourselves)

b.    Editorial video for NECA and they have skin in the game as they will install a lot. 

c.     David Rodgers deputy secretary for energy efficiency attended. And was hand walked thru LFI by NEMA guys to see leading edge technologies.  Ron Runkles, NEMA, said that David said he may bring a whole team.  DOE is a friend of ours.

d.    Public relations and Building Operating Management (Buildings Magazine)  in August. magazine will feature many articles.  AUG.  Specifically as it addresses facilities management.  NEMA sponsored booth at BOMA in JUN 09. IFMA show in October and NFFT show in March.

e.     Exciting website. Virtual lighting community for all those in need of understanding Lighting solutions. Will launch the site in august.  www.nemasavesenergy.org  All of the nema organizations inside this location, mini-booths.  Will add distribution, contractors, full chain.  In one part of the site.  2nd part will be lighting education, and webinar capabilities.  If Acuity wants to have a big product launch they can run the medium.  Energy calculators, CAD/CAM, rebates and financial calculators.

Direct mail.   How we get to the market place. Address the c-level side of the largest corporations throughout the US.   Will continue to refine to the top 1000 CEO, COO, CFO of management.  Brochure which is direct and complete.  Direct letter from Sam Bodwell,  Secretary of Energy,  small box of fruits and dried fruits which will accompamny the brochure.  Market research if gift is associated, it gets thru to the CEO.  Savings bushels of money.

 

 

6) How long will the task force operate to influence the lighting upgrade/renovation market?

 

Nov 2006 funding was approved.  So far the task force meets each week on the phone. 4 face to faces.  40-50 conference calls.  Comittment is quite good.  Philips person disappeared, Susan Bloom.
