STREETSBORO, OH (December 21,
2009) – For most of the Lighting Industry, we are just now becoming comfortable
with EISA 2007 which took effect nationally almost a year ago on January 1,
2009. Now, here we go again with California (CA) leading the way for efficiency
and compliance standards, and Venture is ready.
The state of California adopted higher metal halide standards that take effect
on January 1, 2010. The legislation mimics the federal EISA language with a
couple of twists. It still affects metal halide luminaries manufactured in the
wattage range 150-500. It still has the same exclusions.
The twists and turns begin with moving the standard 88 percent ballast
efficiency to 90 and 92 percent. This can be interpreted that the state of CA is
asking for electronic ballasts in HID fixtures. The focus on electronic HID
systems assist with reduction of energy, better lumen output, longer life and
controllability. Electronic HID is a competitive comparison to the popular
fluorescent T5 and T8 systems in applications.
The 88 percent systems can still be utilized under precise rules. A manufacturer
must use an integral dimming system with the fixture as one option. The simplest
solution is to comply with various wattage bins that are listed for approval.
The bins are broken down so pulse start 175 and 250 watts can no longer be used.
These wattages can be replaced with 150 and 200W systems. The 400W pulse start
is still an option but must meet a mean LPW requirement. Therefore, the 320W is
the favorable selection.
Venture Lighting offers the largest lamp and ballast product lines that are
fully compliant with the new standards. Venture has more options in the wattage
bins compared to any of the other HID lamp and ballast manufacturers in the
industry.
“We have been prepared with a product line since EISA 2007 for California’s new
Title 20,” said Ken Hawley, vice president of marketing and sales at Venture
Lighting International. “As a company, we support and applaud energy efficient
technology in pulse start metal halide,” Hawley added.
The Venture product families; Uni-Form lamps and the Opti-Wave ballasts are
